Lost Tower did not emerge from a vacuum. We pulled from a specific set of games and design traditions. This piece walks through the influences and what we took from each.
Bloons TD (classic tower defense)
Bloons TD taught us that tower defense can be both deep and accessible. The tight design discipline of Bloons informed how we approached unit balance, tower variety, and the relationship between active play and progression.
Cookie Clicker (incremental purity)
Cookie Clicker proved that pure incremental mechanics can sustain engagement for years. We pulled from its purity: the clarity of "this number becomes this other number" as a satisfying loop. Lost Tower buries this in deeper systems but the core appeal is still there.
Slay the Spire (meta-progression)
Slay the Spire showed how meta-progression can deepen short runs. Each Lost Tower run benefits from your parchment library, your god ascension, your base tower level. We learned this layering pattern from the deckbuilder roguelike tradition.
Hades (identity through writing)
Hades demonstrated that mechanics-driven games can have rich narrative identity. The four gods of Lost Tower owe a debt to Hades' approach to mythology: gods with personality, distinct voices, and stakes in the player's choices. See our four gods lore for our take.
The Tower (idle TD foundation)
The Tower defined the modern idle tower defense form. We learned from its core loop and built outward. See Lost Tower vs The Tower for the specific differences.
Indie philosophy in general
Beyond specific titles, we drew from indie philosophy: respect for player time, fair monetization, depth over surface. The indie scene has been shaping mobile gaming away from extractive patterns. Lost Tower wants to be part of that movement.
