Active play in Lost Tower rewards attention. This guide covers the strategic depth available when you focus on a match: how to read incoming waves, when to upgrade, which targets to prioritize, and the rhythm of optimal play.
Active play in Lost Tower is about reading the next wave, timing upgrades to coincide with hard waves, prioritizing elites and bosses, and finding the rhythm between aggression and patience. Active matches consistently outperform idle by 40%+ for the same time invested.
Quick answer
Read what is coming. Spend at the right moment. Target the dangerous enemies. Stay rhythmic.
Wave reading
Most matches show the next wave's composition before it spawns. New players ignore this. Experienced players plan their upgrades around it. If the next wave is armored, upgrade single-target damage. If it is swarm, upgrade splash or freeze. Read first.
Upgrade timing
Spending gold the moment you have it feels safe but wastes potential. The right rhythm:
- Early waves: spend immediately to build foundation
- Mid waves: save 20-30% for emergency upgrades on hard waves
- Late waves: spend everything; you will not survive long enough for savings to matter
Target priority
Your tower targets automatically by default. You can override:
- Elites: always priority. Their abilities affect the whole wave.
- Bosses: phase awareness matters. See bestiary.
- Armored units: prioritize if you have piercing damage. Otherwise let them slip.
- Swarm: splash damage handles them. Manual targeting wastes attention.
The rhythm
Optimal play has a rhythm: read, upgrade, target, watch, read again. Lose the rhythm and you lose the match. Find the rhythm and you will reach waves you did not think possible.
