Lost Tower progression is intentionally layered. There are five distinct systems that progress simultaneously, each with its own pace and decision space, and each interacting with the others. Understanding the architecture changes how you play.
On this page
Lost Tower has five progression layers: in-match upgrades reset each run, persistent tower levels carry forward, parchments are permanent collectible modifiers, god ascension unlocks deeper abilities for each patron, and the seasonal pass adds limited-time content. All five interact, and decisions in one affect the others.
Quick answer
Five layers. Each operates at a different time scale. Match decisions affect daily progression, daily progression affects weekly, weekly affects monthly. See our piece on idle progression systems in general for theoretical background.
Layer 1: in-match upgrades
Inside any active match, you upgrade tower damage, attack speed, range, and special abilities using resources earned from kills. These upgrades reset when the run ends. This is the active strategy layer, decided in real time.
Layer 2: persistent tower levels
Between matches, your base tower gains permanent levels. Higher base levels mean stronger starting stats in every new match. These levels are slow to earn but always carry forward.
Layer 3: parchments
Parchments are collectible artifacts drawn during and between matches. Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic. Each parchment grants a permanent modifier (e.g., "+8% crit chance" or "freeze duration +15%"). You build a parchment library over time and equip a subset before each run. See our progression mechanics piece for how this layer compares to standard idle game design.
Layer 4: god ascension
Each of the four gods has its own ascension track. Playing matches aligned with a god earns ascension points that unlock deeper abilities, passive bonuses, and ultimate skills specific to that god. Ascension is permanent. A fully ascended God of Time, for example, transforms your idle gains dramatically.
See our god selection guide for which god to prioritize.
Layer 5: seasonal pass
Each season (roughly 6 weeks) introduces a Battle Pass with cosmetics, bonus resources, and limited-time challenges. This is optional content that runs alongside the permanent progression. It is the only paid layer, and it does not provide power advantages.
How the layers interact
The active match feeds the persistent layers. Match wins generate parchment draws and god ascension points. The persistent layers feed back into match strength: a higher base tower, better parchments, and deeper ascension trees make each new run more powerful. The feedback loop is where the long-term game lives.
